The BMW M3 was born from the Bavarian manufacturer’s desire to create an FIA Group A racing car. To homologate its competition model, BMW had to sell a road-going version in a minimum of 5,000 units. Unveiled at the 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show, production began the following spring. It received specific bumpers, widened fenders, a rear wing, and a rear window with a revised angle to achieve a drag coefficient of 0.33. This first M3 would become a true legend, embodying the sporty and elegant image of the brand.
